This is a children’s adventure story written in verse which is intended to be both fun and educational. Puzzled by initial impressions of their new classmates on the first day of school, Maggie and her younger brothers and cousin are whisked away by the Magic Map to the Australian Outback, where they meet Kate the kangaroo. A narrow escape from a wildfire with the help of a kookaburra and two koalas teaches Kate and the children the importance of working together and looking beyond superficial differences.
