The aeronauts, aviators and astronauts featured in this book not only had to overcome the force of gravity but, also, the forces of bias and discrimination present in the societies and times in which they lived.These are the stories of ceilings broken and should serve as a checklist for the next generation of flyers who will need to be just that much better to continue the process and progress. I hope it serves as inspiration for today’s pilots, engineers and educators to be the mentors and role models who will help our children navigate on this journey in the sky.
