For more than three decades, the beauty of Lake Ponca and its surroundings have served as my mind’s canvass in the painting of thoughts and poetry that He has spoken to me. Before I walk the five miles leaving my home, circling the lake and returning, I always pray. I pray for what most would pray for: protection and safety from the thousands of vehicles that I have waved to as they passed by over thirty-plus years; protection from the always present dog, whose bark is most always greater than his bite; and increased physical health to be able to continue serving Him.

More importantly, I pray that I would not only hear His Spirit’s voice guiding and convicting me, but that I would have the knowledge and understanding to wisely put into words and actions His leading. I pray for His thoughts…not my thoughts, His will…not my will, and through His power… not through my power. Within this book are thoughts and poetry from over three decades while walking with the Shepherd around Lake Ponca, and at times earlier in my life. I pray they will encourage you to paint on your own mind’s canvass those spiritual thoughts and words He desires just for you.
