This Side of the Dream: A Memoir

Stefani Milan

After the devastating and traumatic loss of her mother, Stefani Milan found herself in an unfamiliar world full of abysmal despair. Through mediums, dreams, signs, and travel, Stefani embarked on a journey to accept the new world she lived in and discovered a new self full of gratitude and love.
…The author takes the reader on a spiritual and, at times, an emotional roller-coaster journey as her healing process evolves following her mother’s death…But the memoir is not depressing. Rather, it vividly and gently brings the reader through the evolution of grief, culminating in a feeling of acceptance and coming to terms with the harsh reality that the bereaved must now face. - Carol Harkavy, Author of Rosie (and me): a memoir.

In April of 2018, Stefani’s mother passed away from pancreatic cancer. During the five-month ordeal of her mother’s terminal illness, Stefani stood by and kept a detailed journal that reflected her struggle with her mother’s demise. Coming to grips with the loss of her mother, who was also her best friend, Stefani found herself in an abysmal world filled with unhappiness and despair where she found it increasingly more difficult to function. In an effort to escape from the torment she experienced following the death of her mother, Stefani traveled to Sedona, Florence, and Nashville. By relying on family and friends for support and desperately trying to make sense of her new reality by resorting to the guidance of mediums to connect with her mother, Stefani eventually was able to accept the new world she was in and learned to cherish every day as a gift. Through a strong and vivid narrative intertwined with poems, songs, and mystical experiences in dreams, this personal transformational memoir will connect to anyone who has felt despair after the loss of a loved one. It serves as a testament to how the strength of the human spirit can shift tragedy into triumph.
