US is a short book plainly stated. We have lost awareness of our ability to make the nation be for US. We do all the work. It should be for US. We need to break our almost hypnotic thinking about the rich. We think we need them to make the corporations and jobs, and their money to finance them. Corporations seem almost magical because of the magical products they make. Wrong. Most Americans work at small or mid-sized businesses. Many big corporations started small and grew by our work and competence. Even when a corporation is formed big, an entrepreneur has an idea, but who are the army who know how to do each step, and who actually do them? US. Much of the financing comes from many small investors pooled together: mutual funds, 401(k)s, savings accounts, pension funds. If employees made more, just as much capital would be in the economy, just more in the small savings accounts. Those magical products? Who invented them? US. Every advance in technology came from US. Apple didn’t develop the iPhone. The engineers within Apple, some of US, did. We can compel change to be for US. We have in the past. In the 1970s a president you wouldn’t expect, Richard Nixon, rushed to enact agencies to protect the environment and to make workplaces safe. Why? Because we demanded it. After the Great Depression people insisted on an economy geared more for workers, and we got it, for decades. Then we let it slip for decades. Note, it wasn’t taken, we let it slip. Who can reverse this? And make it include every person of every sort? US.
