In 1962, James and his family return to a changed Hong Kong after living in Malaya for five years. James is 15, and starting at a new high school-the prestigious La Salle College. As he adjusts to his new life, he finds himself fascinated by the diversity of cultures among his fellow students, and he curiously begins learning about their family’s backgrounds and stories of how they came to Hong Kong. Over the next several decades, James keeps in touch with many of the La Salle old boys, and meets up with them again at reunions and several points in between. Class of 64 is the semi-autobiographical story of a group of young men trying to make it in the ruthless school system and competitive society that forms them and affects their successes and failures in the decades that follow.
