The Emancipation of Kat Turner

Kat is not human. She is property. On a plantation in Sabine Parish, Robert Barnum is infatuated with Kat Turner, his uncle's fifteen-year- old slave; an infatuation considered taboo throughout the South. To outwit the law, he hatches a plan to steal Kat and flee to Mexico, where they can both be free to wed.
