The troop remained a feature of the Virginia Army National Guard through the Cold War and Vietnam. He went on to command the 29th Infantry Division. His treatises on leadership should be required reading for anyone in a leadership position or contemplating such. He is also the author of Driving On, his memoir of being the oldest officer to graduate Ranger School and his time in Vietnam.
