Myradous is a secluded island, unknown to most, shrouded in a dark mist, large-leafed plants, and tall trees. Those who chance upon it may never return to tell the tale. The inhabitants are deeply rooted in their traditions and laws, boasting golden-tanned bodies, mysterious healing abilities, a crystal that glimpses into one's soul, and a society immune to illness and aging. It is a realm of serenity and peace where people are not interested in the outside world.
The island of Myradous is where the captain of The Mickelberry and his shipmates spent two years after the destruction of his ship. This is a strange land with customs they weren't familiar with. On many occasions, each day resembled a tedious familiarity of the day before. It was a feeling of deja vu that left them questioning whether this place was real or if it was a nightmare they were forced to repeat.
After losing his shipmates, he contemplated his fate on the island. To his surprise, he was returned to the sea in a small vessel, taking the island's secrets with him. Yet, he was prohibited from sharing that knowledge with anyone beyond Myradous. This was the vow he took to secure his liberty.
While sitting in his small boat, he reflected on his surroundings. The expanse before him was an endless stretch of water that seemed to cover the world. Amidst the serenity of this grand vista, he pondered the journey that had led him to this point. He also reflected on his past and asked himself where he had gone wrong. He pulled at the substance the Islanders had encased him with all his strength. What had he done to deserve such a fate? Throughout his life, he endeavored to do good deeds. He championed the cause of the less fortunate and stood alongside those who could not stand up for themselves. Occasionally, he tossed a few rebellious men from his ship, but none perished because of his action. Forbidden from befriending the less fortunate, he frequently faced criticism. His father was as self-centered and pretentious as the rest of England's high social society, a lifestyle he rejected, prompting his escape to the sea. "Was I mistaken? Have I made the correct choices in life?" he pondered.
Perhaps if he had stayed home and married his childhood sweetheart, his shipmates might still be alive, and he wouldn't be hundreds of miles from civilization adrift in a small boat. As he pondered his impending death and the choices he had made in life, he felt a yearning for the family he left behind a decade ago. Deprived of water and food for two days, he resented the Islanders for binding him in a material that seemed to constrict with each passing day. It was intended to shield him from the sea's harsh elements, but now it seemed more like his tomb. Should someone rescue him from his ordeal, would his saviors recognize him as a man or monster?
