Comforting Job
Robert John Koester
Job was blameless and upright, a man whom God afflicted with terrible suffering and loss. No one knew why. The five people in Job were searching for an answer. Three thought that God was punishing Job because he was a sinner. Another thought that God was disciplining him. Job, however, knew he was blameless, and he had no answer. Job's speeches are a combination of complaints against God and statements of trust in God's goodness. In the end, God rebuked Job for complaining, but vindicated his trust. Using paraphrase, commentary, and special explanations, this book uncovers the lessons taught in the book of Job.
