Delaney McClellan is Chief of Police in rural Arrowhead, Colorado. The usually quiet town, set along the northern foothills of the Rocky Mountains, is the scene of a grisly attack on one of its citizens by a Blood Assassin, the creature produced by a demonic spell on a human. Covina is, of course, suspect number one, but the lingering fear that a demon spelled the beast into existence weighs heavily on Delaney and her group of Immortals. The mystery takes a dangerous turn when Caroline McClellan receives word of the brutal assassination of her mentor, John Cool Wind. With Caroline in the throes of grief, Delaney accompanies her mother to the Lakota reservation for the funeral, where a long-held secret is exposed.
Things go from bad to precarious, when the inquiry leads to the discovery of who is responsible for the creation of the Blood Assassin, and who the target of their wrath was. Delaney is on the run from an evil she doesn’t understand and seeks solace in the arms of Aaron Rockway. Can she be honest with Aaron and with herself and come clean about how she feels about him?
If that wasn’t enough, the quirky, but loveable, Martha Cox, has a jealous streak a mile wide where Aaron Rockway is concerned. The East Texas good ol’ boy has the aging spinster feeling like a schoolgirl in love. Aaron desperately attempts to dodge Martha’s advances while contending with the random, and at times, inconvenient presence of the Arch Angels, Gabriel, and Michael. How will he maintain the balance and protect Delaney? Can Delaney handle the fight on her own? Does she need Aaron? With Gabriel’s intrusive, but well-meaning help, Aaron is determined to move the relationship forward and publicly claim her as his own, and in so doing, realize the destiny set forth for the both of them.
