Specimens of New Process Wood Type! was issued by the William H. Page Wood Type Company in 1890. The development of die-cut "new process wood type" was a response to competition from J. E. Hamilton's veneer Holly Wood Type, which was sold at a much lower cost than Page's traditional wood type cut by pantograph in end-grain maple. The "new process" proved to be short lived, because one year after this specimen was published William Page sold his wood type company to Hamilton in 1891. Hamilton incorporated all of Page's designs and equipment, and continued to sell the die-cut type until 1906, and the borders into the 1940s. This is the only specimen that shows all of Page's die-cut wood type and border designs.
