The Handbook gives a descriptive sketch of St. Vincent’s topography,
geology and climate, with historical notes from 1498. It provides in chronological
order, highlights of the years, with different aspects of the colony’s
history, providing some, like the volcanic eruptions of 1812 and 1902 and the
English- Carib war of 1795-1796 in greater detail. The Handbook also carries short pieces on a variety of places of interest: the
churches, Botanic Garden, the Carnegie Free Public Library, the secondary
schools at that time, the Glen Community School that no longer exists, the
Agricultural School, city and towns, the Grenadine islands, the governors and
administrators who had served the colony, and names of government officers
in the public service, among others. Although dated 1938, the Handbook still
provides a lot of valuable historical information that could be easily accessed
by following the chronology of events.
