As an adolescent, I remember feeling so many emotions but wasn’t ever comfortable talking about them with my parents. The happy feelings were easy and felt great, but the not-so-happy ones were rough. I remember feeling sad, hurt, nervous, and angry. I also remember wanting to scream, hit, break, and throw things and at times, I did, but mostly, I just cried. I knew that some behaviors I exhibited were not healthy and unsafe. However, I didn’t understand how to process the emotions in ways that would help me to manage the behaviors.

It is Okay to Feel How You Feel is a short storybook created for children ages three to seven. The purpose of this reading is to reinforce varying emotions as regular occurrences. In addition, It is Okay to Feel How You Feel provides prompts and ideas for conversation starters while simultaneously serving as an outlet for children’s emotions. This book was ultimately designed for open dialogue around emotions to encourage parents, guardians, educators, counselors, and the children in their care to talk about their feelings. It is important to let children know that emotions are normal and that it is okay to feel them. Let’s tell our children that; It is Okay To Feel How You Feel.
