An isolated, high mountain village of indigenous people called the Mokie lose their Shaman. A Shaman has guided their lives since time out of memory. With no Shaman to guide them, they abandon their old traditional ways. The young Mokie people grow up with no spiritual traditions to help them understand their home and culture. Their roots loose, they begin to cross the Green Mountains and settle into the cities on the other side. The older Mokie mourn the loss of their traditions and their young people. They grow more and more hopeless until one day, a winter storm blows a large noisy black crow and an oddly dressed newcomer into their village, who walk straight through the village and settle into an abandoned hut down by the river and becomes their new Shaman and puts them in training, and lives out his life with them. The Green mountain Shaman’s story and theirs makes for a notable, warmly charming, intense read. 38 pages. 6x9. PB. All artwork by the author.
