We live in a stress-filled, anxiety-producing world. The news media reports tragedies and strife daily. The crises get personal. Negative thoughts cause us to spiral into a pit, creating anxiety, anger, and an array of damaging emotions. Left unchecked, this pattern of thinking leads to depression and self-destructive behavior, sidetracking the goal of living life to the fullest. Every individual faces the challenge of balancing a poor pitiful me attitude with abundantly joyous living. Employing a few basic tools, we can redirect our thoughts and win the battle. Gratitude provides one of the most powerful and effective of these tools. Experts agree. They point to gratitude as an excellent coping mechanism. Research recognizes the many benefits of a grateful spirit. So, how do you develop a grateful heart? This journal shares reflections from the author’s personal gratitude journey, as well as scripture references and quotes from many authors. Many of the quotes originate from people who found reasons to praise in the midst of unthinkable pain and suffering. Start whenever you choose. On each day, record one thought, person, or object for which you are grateful. You may use the scripture references or the quotes to inspire your personal reflections. Choose to feed your positive spirit. Fill these pages with simple observations on some days and aha moments on others. As you develop the habit of consistently recording the blessings you observe in your own life, I pray this tool encourages you to develop an attitude of gratitude and helps you find purpose and joy in life’s journey.
