The story of the Last Breath is told through the journals of the main character, Desiderio Roman, and what he witnesses and experiences in purgatory. As one of the grave robbers, an outlaw in purgatory, Desiderio struggles mightily as he faces emotional and physical, opposing daemons. Purg is a dangerous seedy world of witchcraft, swords, giants and dragons. Desiderio does find love, friendships and beauty in nature, but in the end, his reality is that he is where unwanted souls exist and goodness is hard to find as possession, addiction and obsession consume him.
