Fu Sheng Shanghai is the new version of Sonia Hu’s biography book Shanghai Forever Lost . It’s a book about the life of her mother and grandmother in Shanghai and Peking between the 1920s’ to 1950s’. The book reveals the personal journey of the author’s mother and grandmother under the regimes of both the Nationalist government and the Communist government. It portraits how the power change and the Thought Reform right after 1949 impacted the course and fate of their lives.
Originally, it was contracted by Jiangsu Phoenix Literature and Culture Publishing House in 2018 to release in China. However, due to the ideological issues, it did not pass the political censorship, and the publishing contract was terminated in 2019 due to Force Majeure.
