Il sacerdote francese Michele Garicoits (1797-1863) e un santo ancora poco conosciuto in Italia, anche perche una parte notevole della sua spiritualita consiste appunto nell'umilta, nella piccolezza fiduciosa davanti alla paternita di Dio e quindi nell'obbedienza alla sua volonta un messaggio in contrasto sia con i rigori morali del giansenismo dell'epoca, sia con l'orgoglio individualista della Rivoluzione francese. Un messaggio che continua anche grazie alla congregazione del Sacro Cuore di Gesu di Betharram, da lui fondata nel 1835 e oggi presente in 14 nazioni.
