Le Chretien Interieur ha avuto una grande influenza sulla spiritualita alla fine del XVII secolo e nel XVIII secolo, con una sparuta sopravvivenza perfino nel XIX secolo, e appare ora in una nuova traduzione italiana fatta sul testo originale francese del 1660. La presente opera pubblicata anonima, precisamente a Rouen (Normandia), da Claude Grivet nel 1660, ottenne in Francia un successo editoriale con decine di edizioni seicentesche. L'opera manifesta la spiritualita di un aristocratico che, come San Francesco, desidera rompere con la sua condizione, valorizzando l'atto di abbandono secondo cui l'uomo deve totalmente rimettersi nelle mani di Dio.
