On June 25, 1950, the North Korean army poured across the 38th Parallel, which divides the North and South, and invaded South Korea, going through it like a cleaver through cake. Backed by the UN, President Harry S Truman sent US armed forces, led by Five-Star General Douglas MacArthur, to fight alongside the South Koreans. Despite Communist China's giving open aid to the North Koreans, the US and UN forces were successful in pushing the North Koreans back over the border. As the Truman Administration made preparations to seek a cease-fire to prevent a broader war, MacArthur proclaimed his own desire to bomb and invade mainland China. In the midst of the smoldering war, the President fired the General. This book records the history of those tenuous days in the middle of the 20th Century.
