The author spent 2 years in Vietnam. Between the years 1969 and 1971, he served for a short time as an MP (Military Policeman) before joining a combat engineer unit and then volunteering to be a door gunner on Huey helicopters. As a combat engineer with the 8th Engineer Bn, Les Dykema participated in the 'invasion' of Cambodia and as a member of 1st Team, Charlie Company (Ghostriders), 227th Air Assault Bn, 1st Cavalry, he took part in numerous operations in the notorious Triangle area. In this book, he recounts his experiences of the war, seen from the ground and from the air. Stress, frustration, comedy, tears, rebellion, fear, terror, faith and disappointment in others were all aspects of fighting a war he would rather have avoided but found hard to leave behind.
