Winter has passed and summer has come for the Berkemeier family. And after a crazy autumn the year before, Eli is looking forward to a quiet life on the Wilson homestead where he is trying to raise his family. But the drought that had occurred the previous year struck them again, and Eli finds himself forced to take measures to survive the coming winter. As Eli sets out with several men from the community to push a herd of cattle east to market, he can't stop thinking about the horserace he had witnessed just before he left. But then things take a turn for the worse back home, and Eli finds himself in a race against time to settle things peacefully the only way he knows how: horseracing. Unfortunately, Lightning is beginning to age, and seems to have lost his desire to race. But with no other options left, will Lightning come through for Eli, or has this saga in Eli's life ended? Follow along as Jeremy Burkholder once again brings to life the enduring Berkemeier saga with a compelling tale that is Christian, wholesome, and good for the entire family, set in the early 1900s, and able to inspire his readers to persevere in their faith, knowing that God's children have better days awaiting them.
