These two counties were the parent counties of Goochland, Albemarle, Amherst, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Cumberland, Powhatan, Chesterfield, Richmond City, Prince George, Brunswick, Lunenburg, Halifax, Bedford, Pittsylvania, Mecklenburg, Charlotte, Amelia, Prince Edward, Nottoway, Dinwiddie, and Petersburg City.
