In L. Frank Baum's Oz books, we learn that Ozma is the daughter of Pastoria, and that he was Mombi's prisoner, as was his father before him. We learn of the Wizard of Oz's part in concealing Ozma when she was a baby, but also that she was a member of a fairy band. Baum was famous for his inconsistencies in his Oz book. This novel fills in some of the gaps and reconciles some of the inconsistencies while presenting an engaging backstory for Glinda, the Wizard, the Witch of the North, Pastoria, and other characters. While it is aimed at young adults and adults, there is nothing that would be unsuitable for a child to read.
