The story takes place in the far west of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, circa 1800. Stephen, the main protagonist, steals treasure from his uncle, who drowned in a violent storm.

After the eventful funeral, Stephen, overwhelmed with feelings of guilt and remorse, escapes to the mainland. He begins a new life surrounded by dark mysterious forces.

Stephen, filled with passion and desire, is led toward his destiny by the mystical child Lamorna. Finally, the sea Gods take their revenge.
