She painfully conveys the struggle that comes from existing in a body that will inevitably fail, all whilst battling a mind overcome with persistent negative thoughts. Throughout the collection, Watt also writes candidly about her Christian faith, shattering the image of the "perfect church girl." Despite portraying a woman in a state of crisis, This Is My Body concludes on a hopeful note, with the poet eventually gaining awareness that her soul is not entirely her own to keep and protect--she can gladly give her immortal soul over to God.
