Sheena Tomlinson has written poetry for many years and recently made the decision to publish her first book in memory of her father who passed away in 2020. Her poetry reflects her personal life experiences, as well as those of her friends and everyday situations. She believes her earlier poems were not as polished as they are now, however, she has left some of them in the book to show her growth as a writer. The book covers an array of subject matters, varying from her most recent ‘2020 Vision’ which is Covid related, to poetry inspired by friends going through trauma, ‘Abused’ and ‘Friend of Mine’ to more light hearted subjects such as ‘Hot Summer’. We all go through tough times and she feels that writing helps her heal and move forward. Sheena’s aim is that her readers can relate to some of her experiences in the book and have an understanding of her as an author. If there is one takeaway that she would like her readers to leave with, it is that ‘you can achieve anything you want to, if you are determined and it is your passion’.
