As this story begins, Molly, the grandmother manatee, is reflecting on her favorite roles. She simply loves mothering Mikie, her growing grandson. Her next favorite role is being the head teacher at the Manatee Ocean School. Her students call her Miss Molly. Miss Molly's classroom is filled from fin to tail with many different species of animals from around the world. Her main goal is to open the minds and hearts of all of her students, teaching them about the environment along the way. Miss Molly strives very hard to share her love of science with the students, letting them know that the only dumb question is one that they don't ask. Her students' questions are her treasures, and she takes time to answer every one of them. If she is not sure of the correct answer, she asks her students to join in researching the topic until they all understand it completely.
