Grandma’s Chicken Stories is inspired by the bedtime tales told by Carolyn Helscher Sladek to her grandchildren. Growing up in rural Iowa, one of her chores as a child was to collect eggs and care for the chickens on the family farm. She has worked as a teacher and educator for over 20 years. Carolyn and her husband, Frank, have raised four children to adulthood. They live happily in Iowa with their dog, Eddison. Written by: Emy (Sladek) Porter

I love the way my mom tells bedtime stories to my kids. There’s always giggles, requests for more, and eventually sweet sleep. I hope others can appreciate the humor, artistry, and nostalgia of these books, as well as the educational value. Learning is an adventure! Emy lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband, Thomas, and two homeschooled children. They have a couple of dogs and a few colorful chickens of their own.

Kermit grew up on a small farm in northeast Iowa. He now resides with his wife in Cedar Rapids. He has two married daughters and six wonderful grandchildren whom he loves to spend time with. Kermit has been doing graphic design and illustration for over 45 years. Awards include 2006 Iowa Pheasants Forever Print of the Year and the 2014-15 Iowa DNR Habitat print and stamp.
