Kirk McKenna was nineteen, and he was enjoying life. He had a small but close circle of guy friends, buddies, comrades. They lived every day as if it were their last. They had a lot of fun; they were adventurous and loved excitement, but they didn’t always make wise decisions.

It was August 1989 when everything started to fall apart for him. McKenna was at a house party where the host decided she wanted to have a seance. He wasn’t quite comfortable with it, but he was there making jokes and almost mocking it. It might have been that encounter, or his heavy drinking at the time, or sleepless nightlife fun, but whatever it was, things abruptly came to a halt for him.
