William T. Hogg was a gruff yet driven Mississippi entrepreneur who founded over fifteen companies in his lifetime. He contributed his success to following five disciplines of management and the principles of a Captain's Wheel, a symbol he used for the leadership development program he designed and facilitated beginning in the 1960s. While serving as an executive at one of his companies in 2007, Sara Jane Hope volunteered to assist Hogg with the revision of his former biography. In a narrative composed from their conversations over the course of nearly two years, Hope shares his essential management philosophy, techniques of the Captain's Wheel, and snippets into his life that demonstrate how he learned, applied, and developed his disciplines and the spokes of the Wheel. Through his insights, current and future leaders will learn how to manage their image, words, and actions; a business with enthusiasm, timing, and organization; and their people into positive contributors who feel their efforts are appreciated. Additionally, his principles guide leaders through the process of developing passionate intrapreneurs and offer advice on how to become an entrepreneur. Included are contemplative questions that encourage personal reflection. Coached by the Captain shares five management disciplines and the philosophy of a seasoned entrepreneur that guide current and future leaders to succeed at business and life.
