The Salvado Habana Event has devastated the world, leaving only a fraction of mankind left to rebuild society. Mark finds himself trying to make sense of what has happened, fend for his family's survival, all the while aware that his son, Austin, already had struggles of his own that are seemingly fatal in this new world.
Austin maintains his positivity throughout the initial aftermath of this event, and although he is unable to convey his reasoning to his father, he finds himself vindicated through a miracle side effect of the event that spreads hope and joy to all those afflicted. This joy is short lived unfortunately, as there are extreme negative side effects from the event as well.
