Just Me

by Rex Romaine Bahr

Just Me is about author Rex Romaine Bahr’s struggle and what he has done to help live a half-way normal life. He is eighty-four years old, and it has been one hell of a life after he was hit in the face by a swing his sister was swinging on.

When she said, Come here, Rex I will give you a ride, he ran to her and she put her feet to stop but that swung the swing sideways, and it was came back straight when it hit him. It broke his right cheek bone, nose, and right lower jaw.

About the Author

Rex Romaine Bahr was born on a farm seven miles south and one and a half miles west of Bassett, Nebraska on the hot, dusty day of July 23, 1935. When he was forty-five, he was asked how he happened to have a name like Rex Romaine. His mother, Sylvia Baker Bahr, said, Your names are of my ex-boyfriends, and do not tell your father.

Bahr was working when he was eight years old, helping his brother Lyle disc with a four head team of horses. They’d sit on the rocks on the disc and Bahr was scared he may fall off and get hurt or killed. This accident, and the doctors say because he was carried in his mother during the Dirty Thirties is why his brain is screwed up, and the never ending fear from the swing accident.

Bahr was an Air Force Crew chief of a RB-47-E spy plane in the 343rd Squadron, 55th wing, when he was in the Air Force between 1953-1957.
