Rose

John Baker Hollick

The year is 1938. Billy’s mother, on her death bed, tells him he has a sister. Billy doesn’t believe her. Before she dies, Billy promises to find her. His sister, Rose, had been in the Rosewood Asylum since the age of three. But that was only the beginning of her ordeal. Billy’s search takes him behind the walls of the asylums, the world of prostitution, drugs, human trafficking and corrupt lawyers. The characters in the story find their lives inextricably entangled as they relive the life of Billy’s mother. As their search progresses it takes them into the bowels of human degradation, helplessness and suicide. Expecting to find Rose and celebrate her homecoming, they find only the shell of a young woman stripped of her soul and spirit.
