My mother died at the age of twenty-seven, leaving five children. I’m the eldest of the five. In my past, my stepfather told her he would put us in foster care. But my grandparents weren’t having it. Not knowing my grandparents, I was afraid because I was only six years old. But when we got there, it was a blessing for us. My grandparents took us, raised us, and did the best they could for us. They had raised fifteen of their own. And to take five more, I’m not sure I could’ve done that myself. I was grateful. As I went through the struggle of being a single mom, trying to raise four children of my own, it was hard for me because I didn’t know what to do, or how to do it. I do remember my grandmother being a strong woman, taking care of us. And I know that’s where my strength came from to weather the journey. It wasn’t easy being a single mom; coming home from work, with my kids and furniture sitting outside because I’m not able to keep up with rent; and not knowing how I was going to put food on the table for them. That’s why my beliefs in the Lord Jesus Christ are so strong. Because I know that it was Him who brought me through. Now I realize that because the struggle was so heavy. All I can say to the reader is this: Only God can make a difference in our life. All you have to do is trust Him. I wanted to give up a few times and commit suicide, but all I had to do was stay focused and know that God is able to do abundantly above all that we can think or ask. He is the keeper of His children. Struggles will always happen. It’s what we do with them. We can take it and be negative, or allow God to fix it. We have to trust and believe, and at the end of the day, there’s hope. Hope is always available. We just have to accept it for what it is. We need the negative to appreciate the good. I hope that this helps someone. That’s where I used to be. Know that if He did it for me, He will do it for you. Because he doesn’t make discrimination amongst people, stand tall in Jesus, and He will provide for you. Is it easy to know that? It doesn’t come easy. Life doesn’t come easy, but if you keep looking to the Lord, He will take you through anything. I can speak on that because He did it for me. Look at what I just accomplished-I wrote a book. I didn’t think I could, but this was done with His help. I thank you for listening to what I have to say, and may God bless you and keep you.
