Former LAPD cop-turned private investigator Yolanda Avila takes on a new client whose son Gamaliel has been charged with murder. The undocumented pair benefit from the largess of Kinji Abe, an elderly Japanese American concentration camp survivor, who sees them a family. This brush with the law endangers more than Gamaliel's freedom. It opens him up to the risk of deportation to a country he barely knows. And when Kinji becomes a suspect, his "family" is at risk too.
