Following on the Way explores the Acts of the Apostles as a guide for spiritual formation. While noting some key issues in the interpretation of Acts, Karen E. Smith enters into conversation with Scripture to elicit themes related to spiritual growth and development. In reflecting on Scripture, Smith has drawn from Christian spiritual guides from across the ages to serve as conversation partners in the quest to discover more about being a disciple of Christ. Included at the end of each chapter are questions for personal reflection or group discussion.
Karen E. Smith is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow of the School of History, Archaeology and Religion, Cardiff University, Wales, UK. Originally from Georgia and an ordained Baptist minister, she was awarded a doctorate in 1986 from Oxford University for her research in Baptist history. After teaching in the USA, she returned to Britain in 1991. As both a university lecturer and the pastor of a Baptist church in Wales, she has been primarily concerned with the area of Christian formation for ministry, and she has written widely in the areas of church history and Christian spirituality.
