This storyline takes place in the fourteenth century during and after the Black Plague took place. Our three children became orphans due to their families perishing during the onset of the Black Death at the end of 1348. The brothers in an island monastery take the two boys and girl in and agree to raise them until they reach the age of twenty-one.
At first, they are in great emotional stress and are quite resentful of God. One special monk becomes their mentor and eventually wins them over to Christianity; however, God had another plan. A raid on the monastery completely changes their direction in life, and the two boys embark on a mission to rave souls far to the northern part of Germany by the Baltic Sea.
They meet a princess and her father and start a major trading company staffed by the monks in their monastery. The Viking raiders attack the prince’s town, Lubeck, and the young men save the day twice. While proceeding to Bergen in Sweden, the become shipwrecked and walked two hundred miles to Bergen.
The prince’s daughter and the girl in the monastery fall in love with the same man, and life remains complicated for Brother Mason. Before the plague, the feudal system was entrenched in Europe, but after half of Europe dies, the Renaissance arrives. However, it took 150 years until Europe’s population recovers.
