Immediately after the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War in 1970, environmental health policies became compromised and were bereft of anticipatory guidance for sanitation workers, and town planners who failed to recognize the dangers of urbanization regarding solid waste management, and the necessity of long-term planned landfill programs for the cities of Aba, Umuahia, and the surrounding communities. Ever since this author came to the United States of America in 1980 as a registered nurse (RN), his keen interest in the cleanliness of the environment in the cities became a point of curiosity culminating to his pursuit of a terminal degree concentrating on the leadership of solid waste management programs in Abia State. The focus of the research that resulted to the publication of this book was to determine the existence of solid waste management leadership deficiencies and proffer practical solutions to enhance the transition to the twenty-first century solid waste management leadership skills required for the cities of Aba and Umuahia.
