It was no surprise that I was ill prepared for my new life on skid row, working as the live-in manager for a run-down, sleazy motel. I went from enjoying my sheltered existence of weekly book club gatherings and G-rated luncheons with church friends to rubbing shoulders with hard-core drug dealers and assisting local police with busting criminals. A cyborg, child molester, giant, and kleptomaniac in the Witness Protection Program were just a few of the interesting boarders I had to oversee, with each person more unpredictable than the next. My Christian upbringings taught me long ago to reserve all judgment of others, so I’ll leave that to you. These are the true and humorous stories of my dealings with the seedy, and often criminal, guests of the No Tell Motel.
