An emotional family saga spanning almost a century, The Right Thing follows the sometimes loving, sometimes stormy relationships between Helen and her two daughters, Kibby Jane and Roberta Jo. Helen’s story begins in 1934 in rural Washington state and ends with her memorial service in 2013.

Helen and her daughters all make the same mistake when they are young. But their individual solutions to the problem are very different,

partly because of the fundamental differences in their personalities and partly because of the changing cultural morals and rules of society at the time. Throughout their lives, they all continue to wonder if they did The Right Thing.
