Don’t Drop the Potato is the story of a sixteen-year-old boy’s search for meaning in a world of chaos. A place to sleep, something to eat, sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll music, drag Chip along life’s journey

A broken home, with a father in prison, forces Chip, along with his mother and brother, to move from California to Arizona to live with relatives. Chip’s mother picks a fight with her sister-in-law, which lands them on the street, only to hitchhike back home to California. Harassed by hoodlums, while hungry, cold, and worn out, they end up sleeping on a park bench in the dismal town of El Centro. Chip’s mother and brother fall asleep, leaving Chip alone to stare into the abyss. Emotionally broken, a grief-stricken Chip realizes there is no God, and that he’s alone.

When he’s kicked out of school for fighting, Chip hooks up with two other outcasts, Steve and Frank. One day, as the boys are sitting around Frank’s house, they come up with the wild and desperate idea to free the prisoners from the Bay of Pigs. Bonded by this grandiose scheme, they steal a car and head east to Key West, Florida, in search of freedom and glory. Their impulsive adventure forces them to face life’s challenges and one another in ways they never imagined. Through laughs, rage, and tragic loss, Chip barely manages to survive, clinging to his sanity via a precious hope to not give up–to not drop the potato.
