Tall-for-his-age, curly haired Happy Taskett is one of the most appealing, wonderful boys in town, all the adults say. He’s growing up quickly with his older twin sisters in small town 1970s Middle America. Beneath the friendly exterior, that which his family sees begins to collide sharply with a darkening private view of his pastor-father’s words from the pulpit, contradicted, seemingly, by the challenging reality of Happy’s home life. As his teen years pass, he must decide between the immediate attraction inherent in his friends’ choices or rely upon the lessons of his own imperfect upbringing before his family is destroyed. Beyond the turmoil, a story of forgiveness unfolds between children and their parents as the short passing years transform suspicion and guilt to renewed love and understanding.
