Listen …
Can you hear it?
Among the thundering din of the status quo there is a voice speaking …
Not the voice of the one who seeks to maintain the power and control of those in power and control …
Not the voice of those who want to take over the power and control for themselves …
It is a gentle breeze …
It whispers through the mighty blast of those impressed with their own majesty …
It speaks to a majesty beyond the mundane petty hubris of the powerful …
It is the second voice … the prophetic voice … the voice of God …
And it comes through those we have tried to silence.
The Second Voice contends that it is not our task to choose a theology and weave it into truth. Rather, it is our task to discover–as best we are able–what is true and weave it into a theology. We are finite people seeking relationship with an infinite God–seeking a deeper understanding of God. In order to grow in our faith and knowledge of God, it is important that we listen to others who also know something about God–something we do not yet know. Unfortunately we tend to listen only to those who agree with us. This tendency stands in the way of growth.
The Second Voice is the voice that stands against the status quo. It may be the voice of the prophet. It might be God speaking in unexpected ways through those we might otherwise dismiss.
