Principles of Oceanography

The study of various physical, chemical and biological features of oceans is known as oceanography. It is an inter-disciplinary field of physics, geology and biology which attempts to study the history of the oceans, their current situation and future implications of climate change. The subject of oceanography can be further divided into physical oceanography, biological oceanography, chemical oceanography and geological oceanography. Physical oceanography focuses on the properties and movements of sea water. Biological oceanography studies the biology and ecology of marine organisms such as plankton, bacteria, fish, etc. Chemical oceanography deals with the composition of seawater and biogeochemical factors that affect it. Geological oceanography is concerned with the geology of ocean floor and basins.
