Platelet is a component of blood which is responsible for the initiation of a blood clot in reaction to bleeding occurring from a blood vessel injury. These are also known as thrombocytes because of their role in thrombosis. They also play a role in non-thrombotic disorders. These include non-thrombotic manifestations such as inflammation and cancer. Platelets are continuously recruited at the sites of injury and they regulate inflammatory processes by secreting cytokines and chemokines. They also affect the inflammatory response in cancer by deploying leukocytes at the tumor sites and by influencing the activation status of the endothelium. Platelets take part in the production of neutrophil extracellular traps which can promote metastasis and can contribute to organ failure. This book covers in detail some existent theories and concepts revolving around the role of platelets in non-thrombotic disorders. It will also provide interesting topics for research which interested readers can take up. This book will prove to be immensely beneficial to students and researchers in this field.
