Gone but Not Forgotten is both historical and fiction covering the events of the early part of the Civil War. It is also the intent to bring to light the suffering of slaves and the extreme sacrifices they made throughout this unfortunate part of history and the impact that the Underground Railroad that ran from Illinois to Canada. John and Rebecca Zink were very active transporting and hiding their important cargo though the steps to freedom. Most of the names in this book are actually taken from the era between 1859 and 1880 and depict the actual events through their own personal experiences. John served in the Eighty-Fourth Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment Company B, and Rebecca continued their efforts in keeping the Underground Railroad active throughout their time apart.
