This book covers the study of the foundation, the beliefs, the organization, the vision, the mission, and the values of the Church of the Nazarene. Each church, as part of the family of God, has an identity and this identity is built from its foundation. The book contains a biographical account of the founder, Rev. Phineas F. Bresee, a spiritual and charismatic leader passionate about holy living and service to the poor. It also includes a summary of the principle doctrines of the Church of the Nazarene which are in the Wesleyan-Arminian theological tradition. It explains how the church is organized on the local, regional, and global levels, as well as the achievements and advances in global missions of the denomination over the 100 years since its foundation. In addition, the book summarizes sections of the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene relative to the values and the official position of the denomination regarding the critical issues of contemporary society (such as sexuality, abortion, the use of stem cells, among others).
The book contains eight group lessons appropriate for youth and adults. Each lesson includes personal life application activities that can be put into practice in the ministries of the local church.
This book is part of the School of Leadership series comprised of five basic books. Additionally, there are six books for each of the ministry specialties.
