My Redcoat Ancestor … . . Growing up in a large family during the Great Depression, little did I realise the wealth of relatives who had gone before. Family records had be en kept for hundreds of years - all the way back to William the Conqueror in 1066. Among them, I di scovered one who had made quite a name for himself. Colonel Charles Mawhood wa s a British Redcoat who had fought in the American Revolution War. In particular he had come face to face with George Washington at the Battle of Princeton, among other battles. Was hington even spoke of Colonel Mawhood’s bravery before Congress - his words also in the Library of Congress. History is written by the victors and this story will show another interesting view point. Colonel Charles and the author are related through grandparents seven generations back. (M y Maiden name is the same)… … and other short stories. The ‘other short stories’ are based on my almost-nine de cades of life’s experiences through war and peace, tragedies and triumphs, upheavals and travels. They run the spectrum of war, whimsy, fact and fiction, fears, failures and fun - e specially humility and humor. I hope the reader will enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
